In recent years, a new form of currency has gained significant global attention, dramatically changing the existing financial landscape that we all know. “Cryptocurrency” is an umbrella term that includes millions of various digital currencies, each with fundamental aspects that relate them – the technology upon which they are built (blockchain). And while the technology itself is definitely not something to fear, roads are being paved that could eventually lead to the one world currency that was prophesied in Revelation 13. As Christians, it’s important to approach this technological advancement with discernment – looking to scripture, considering its benefits, risks, and how we can engage with it responsibly.

What is cryptocurrency?
Cryptocurrency is a decentralised digital currency that utilises cryptography for secure transactions and operates independently of a central bank. Cryptocurrency – such as Bitcoin or Ethereum – functions as a digital medium of exchange. It relies on blockchain technology, a distributed ledger that records all transactions across multiple computers around the world. This decentralised nature eliminates the need for intermediaries like banks and offers potential advantages such as lower fees, faster transactions, and increased privacy.
