Why marriage matters: More than ‘just a piece of paper’

Far from being useless, marriage is something recognised and practiced by basically every culture throughout history. Why would this be the case if it served no purpose? It is the book of Genesis that explains how the very concept of marriage is rooted in the way God designed the world.

The voices claiming that “marriage is useless” are incredibly naïve. A mountain of social science data overwhelmingly proves that marriage is a social good, yielding higher rates of health and happiness, sexual satisfaction, and better outcomes for children than any other romantic arrangement. To reduce marriage to “a piece of paper” is absurd…

Amidst all the electioneering, unrealistic promises, media performances, slogan shouting, and empty rhetoric, it is very difficult to maintain an objective perspective on reality. Many even find it difficult to discern between what is right and what is wrong during election campaigns. Be careful not to merely listen to what is said, but to observe what is done. The Parables of Jesus: The talents

The Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24 to 25 is Jesus’ end times sermon where He discusses the events leading up to His Second Coming. In Matthew 25, Jesus shares three parables, in this article we look at the parable of the talents. Jesus speaks of a man’s journey to a “far country” (Matt 25:14), so he leaves three servants in charge of his considerable wealth. To one he gives five talents, to another two, and to the last one. Upon the master’s return, he demands an accounting of the servants, only to find that whereas the first two commendably doubled their wealth, the third one did nothing with his talent. The master severely chastises this last servant, calling him “wicked and lazy” (v 26).So, what’s Jesus’ point?
